Todd, full name Theodore "Todd" Thornley IV, is a localized version of Mamoru Tōdō featured in the North American version of Surprise! Nekketsu New Records! The Distant Gold Medal. In this continuity, Todd is the only son of Spring Hills' oldest and wealthiest family. Todd wishes to win the heart of Penelope Worthington, though she secretly has feelings for Crash instead.
Background[]
Todd debuted in the localization of Surprise! Nekketsu New Records! The Distant Gold Medal as a replacement for Tōdō in the story and as a replacement for Riki in gameplay. He is the captain of Washington High School's team.
Todd is first seen during the opening of the game angry at another defeat to Crash at the All-City Track Meet. While the Southside celebrated their victory, Todd would challenge Crash vowing that he'll take him down, to which Crash accepts the challenge. Later inside of the Thornley Industries headquarters, Mr. Thornley is seen getting angry with his son for failing him. Todd then barges into his office pleading with him to not throw him out. With Mr. Lee demanding that he challenges the Southside to a rematch, Todd asks his father to remove the tournament rules in order to leave Crash vulnerable and suggests that they host the event on the Southside as a way to further humiliate them. While skeptical, Mr. Thornley agrees but insists that Todd will be kicked out if he fails. Outside of the headquarters, Skip asks Todd if he thinks what he's doing is necessary, as he personally thinks the Southside is too dangerous. Todd rudely asks Skip to stop talking and remains determined to humiliate the Southsiders. Skip then expresses his concerns for facing off against Crash and his team as he's scared of them, though Todd insults him before leaving to find Artie and Spreck.
During the ending of the game, Todd is seen again outside of the Thornley Industries headquarters with Skip and is angry about his defeat vowing that he'll get back at Crash. Skip suggests that the Thornley team gave Crash a good scare, to which Todd agrees and thinks that if he can get them to hate Crash like how he does, they'd be able to easily take care of him. Realizing that the Thornley team is flying back home shortly, Todd and Skip quickly make their way to the airport.
At the airport, Thornley gifts Crusher a bouquet and hands him an invitation from Mr. Thornley requesting them to come back soon. Todd attempts to trick Crush and Rocky Rockowitz into thinking that Crash has been badmouthing them, though the two are aware that what he's saying isn't true and only pretends to believe Todd. Once the two leave, Crash arrives at the airport disappointed that he wasn't able to say goodbye, which Todd then questions why he's at the airport believing that they're none of his business. Todd attempts to scare Crash into never wanting to face against the Thornley team again, though Crash isn't phased and suggests that he'd love to play against them again as he believes they're great athletes. Skip then finds the bouquet gifted to Crush in the trash and reads the note he left calling Todd a loser, which angers him and furthers his resentment towards Crash. Todd threatens to pin the blame on Crash after firing the Thornley team and then demands Skip to attack him, though he instead decides to run away. Crash angrily mentions that he can't wait to crush the Hillers during the Hockey season, which gives Todd the idea to challenge him in the sport another day.
