Takayama (たかやま ) is a supporting character featured in Shin Nekketsu Kōha: Kunio-tachi no Banka. He is a police officer and warden at the Nerima Juvenile Correction Facility and is the father of Mamoru. Takayama is described as being strict but intelligent at heart.
Background[]
Takayama first appears inside of the prison where he sternly introduces himself to Kunio and Riki to show them their cell. He asks Kunio if his son Mamoru is his classmate and claims that ever since he started hanging out with Kunio, he's also gone down a bad path. Takayama states that he will never forgive somebody like Kunio. Takayama later appears during the second night where he hears the commotion inside of cell 218 and angrily demands that the prisoners keep quiet as its early in the morning. With Takayama being grabbed from behind by one of the prisoners, Kunio and Riki make their escape. Takayama later spots the boys at the prison walls and sends some guards to catch them.
When Kunio and Riki make their escape, Takayama and another guard catches up to them and fights the two in an attempt to detain them. Upon being defeated, he rolls over on the ground and laughs to himself vowing that he'll catch the two no matter what it takes. Takayama is later seen guarding the front of Nekketsu High School, so the boys decide to go through the school's back entrance with Hiroshi keeping watch as a lookout. When Kunio, Riki and Misako get ready to leave to check in on Hanazono High School, Takayama spots the group on the streets and gets ready to beat them with his baton, though he is stopped by Mamoru. With Mamoru pleading to his father to stop, Takayama appears confused and enraged that his son is still hanging out with Kunio. Mamoru attempts to tell Takayama that Kunio and Riki weren't responsible for the hit and run accident, though he ignores his comments and continues to demand that he be let go.
Takayama later appears outside of the Blue Emperor hideout with Mamoru to inform Kunio and Riki that he's looked into their case after what happened earlier and found out the person behind Ken was Sabu. When Kunio asks for Ken's true identity, Takayama informs Kunio that he is believed to be his twin brother. When Kunio claims he has no brother, Takayama states that he's unsure if Ken is truly related, but knows for certain that he's jealous of Kunio and despises him. With Kunio confused on how Ken could be jealous of him, Takayama explains that because the two were supposedly separated at birth, Ken was raised in an orphanage and was jealous of the fact that his brother got to grow up in a normal family. Takayama asks the group to let him handle what's left at the warehouse while they go look for Ken, who was last seen at the disco in Roppongi.
When Misako and Kyōko are shot by Sabu, Takayama meets the boys outside of the pachinko parlor to inform them that Ken and Sabu are headed to their second house in Izu. Realizing that the boys won't be stopped even if he tries to stop them, Takayama offers to lead them to the house and asks Mamoru to call an ambulance to get Misako and Kyōko to the hospital. Upon arriving to Sabu's villa, Takayama tells the boys that he's going to be talking to the Department of Jurisdiction in order to get hard evidence for Sabu and Ken's arrest. He lets the boys know that they can do whatever they want, though asks them to not get themselves killed. Once he has left, Kunio thanks Takayama for his help.
During the ending of the game, Takayama appears relieved that Kunio and Riki made it out alive and informs them that any of Sabu's lackeys that ran away from the house were all arrested. He also gives out the good news that he just received a call from Mamoru confirming that Misako and Kyōko survived their shots and are currently recovering in a stable condition. Takayama then leaves with Kunio and Riki as they get ready to head back to Tokyo.
