Maeda (前田, まえだ ), full name Tōru Maeda (前田亨, まえだ とおる ), is a third year student at Hanazono High School who was first featured in Downtown Nekketsu March: Super-Awesome Field Day!. He is described as being a short-tempered person who loves to fight. He has a stronger sense of camaraderie than most people.
He used to be the leader of a group rivaling Riki's, though joined up with him after losing to him in a fight.[1]

Maeda had made a promise to Riki and swore that he'd help him rescue Mami Shimada. When playing as Riki, Maeda will wait for him at Hanazono Park #3 and is able to be recruited as an ally.

River City: Rival Showdown is a remake of Downtown Nekketsu Story. The game takes place before River City Super Sports Challenge ~All Stars Special~.
In the story mode, Maeda is first seen during the second day at Hanazono High School backing up Hikaru Saotome on trying to explain to Kaoru Sonokawa that they weren't responsible for attacking Senridai High School students. If Kunio does not prevent Riki from being jumped by Kiyofumi Taira at Starpark Café, Kunio will instead assist Maeda, Saotome, and Wataru Sasaki in their fight against the Senridai students.

Maeda plays the role of Sun Jian, the father of Sun Quan (Riki) and a general who built the foundation of Wu.
In the story mode, Sun Jian appears on the second chapter during the coalition meeting in Chen Liu. With the room going silent, Sun Jian steps up and volunteers to be the coalition's vanguard. Guan Yu (Kunio) asks if he can assist them, to which Sun Jian asks them to introduce themselves, as he has not seen them before. Guan Yu introduces themselves as the Brothers of the Peach Garden, to which Sun Jian remembers hearing the name from somewhere though is unable to pinpoint where he heard it from. Sun Jian accepts Guan Yu's assistance and thinks of him as more trustworthy than everyone else in the coalition. Sun Jian and his troops head off to the Hulao Pass to fend off Dong Zhuo (Sabu)'s army. At the Hulao Pass, Sun Jian appears annoyed that troops are feeling ill because of Yuan Shu (Yūji)'s provisions, though is surprised when the brothers show up to assist him. After the fight against Dong Zhuo's troops, Sun Jian is seen with Huang Gai (Washio) in Xingyang and thanks the brothers for coming to their aid. Sun Jian tells the brothers that he's departing from the coalition as he cannot trust the other members and believes nothing good would come out of working for them.
