- This page refers to Slick from River City Ransom. For the Kunio-kun counterpart, see Yamada.
Slick, also known as Simon, is a localized version of Yamada first appearing in the North American & European versions of Downtown Nekketsu Story as the main antagonist. In this continuity, Slick is a student at River City High and the boyfriend of Roxy. In River City Ransom: Underground, he has since been arrested and has broken up with Roxy.
Appearances[]
River City Ransom[]
Slick debuted in the localization of Downtown Nekketsu Story as the replacement for Yamada.
Slick takes over River City High to gain control over the city and kidnaps Ryan's girlfriend Cyndi. Slick sends out a message to Alex and Ryan warning that if they interfere, they'll be in for the fight of their lives. Alex and Ryan later meet Slick's girlfriend Roxy at the Capitol Ave Bridge where she informs them of Cyndi's whereabouts, who her kidnappers are, and reassures that even though she's with Slick, she's still rooting for them. After the fight with Blade, he will inform Alex and Ryan that they'll need to beat Thor in order to reach Slick. Upon defeating Randy and Andy inside River City High, they will state that Slick can be found ahead on the rooftop.
Upon reaching Slick, he will reveal himself as Alex's old friend Simon and begins speaking to himself about his alias sounding dumber than his real name before he expresses his hatred to people who act like a hero. After his defeat, he pleads for Alex and Ryan to stop and starts to feel his power fading. He tells Alex that he despised him even when they were friends as he always thought he was too good. He warns Alex that he'll be back another day and will never forget what happened. With Slick gone, things in River City would return back to normal.
River City Ransom EX[]
Slick replaces Yamada in the localization of Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari EX. Although the name was changed, Slick's sprite remained unchanged from Yamada. If he is fought with only a member(s) of the Zombies with him, he will instantly defeat them all before engaging Alex/Ryan. If he is fought with any other full posse, he will summon Randy, Andy, and Otis as reinforcements. His special attack, Slick Trick, allows him to telekinetically pick up all weapons on the ground (including fallen characters) and throw them at his opponents.
River City: Rival Showdown[]
In the Double Dragon Duel gamemode, Slick appears under his real name Simon as a playable character unlocked by default.
River City Ransom: Underground[]
Slick first appears as his past self during the prologue of the game as the game retells the events of River City Ransom. After his defeat by Alex and Ryan, it would be revealed that he was sent to prison and would later break out in the present day. When Alex and Ryan first spot the protagonists coming out of the sewer, the group explain their situation before the two reveal that they already know what's going on and suspect that Slick is behind it. Alex states that with the city's gangs desperate for Merv's reward money, tracking Slick down would be a difficult task. Unsure where to start, Roxy wakes up to inform the group that one of the bee brothers was spotted near the freeway and believes that they'd be a good start on finding Slick's whereabouts. Upon defeating Purple Bee, he states that he doesn't plan on snitching on Slick, but tells the group that his brother Pink Bee would. With Pink Bee also defeated, he informs the group that he's only heard rumors of Slick being back in town and that some of his old henchmen have also been seen as of late.
When the group returns to the A&R Auto Shop, Roxy confirms that Pink Bee wasn't lying and that Slick's old kingpins truly have been in town. She mentions that her most recent tip pointed towards the Riverside Bridge, to which the protagonists then head out. Upon meeting Rocko underneath the bridge, he tells the group that Slick reached out to him, though he had no intention of actually getting involved and attempts to run away. When meeting Tex at the sewer, he mentions that he'd willingly join his gang again if he wasn't so busy before leading the group on a chase. Upon catching him, he will tell the group to go to the roof of River City High where they will meet Ivan. On the rooftop, Ivan will be waiting and mentions that he won't be able to stand the dishonor of letting Slick down again before trying to run away. Later after defeating Otis at the school's football field, he informs the protagonists that if they want to get to Slick, they should talk to the school's janitor Ether as he's his biggest fan. Inside of the school's boiler room, Ether makes a dramatic entrance and talks about mastering Slick's technique referring to him as his master before fighting the group. Upon being defeated, he states that Slick is currently at the old River City High and mentions that it was once where he fought against Alex.
At the rooftop of the old River City High, he will briefly introduce himself before fighting the protagonists. Upon being defeated, he laughs off the efforts of the group and believes that his defeat won't mean anything. The group attempts to explain that his previous defeat gave them decades of peace, though Slick states that they aren't aware of his true power and that it is continuing to grow. He attempts to say that they haven't seen the last of him, though he is cut off by the group as they predict what he was going to say and finish the sentence for him. Slick is then sent back to prison and is broken back out shortly after. After returning back to the Auto Shop, Alex and Ryan appear confused as to why the protagonists are still wanted by Merv even though Slick was defeated. Ryan deducts that fighting Slick was only a distraction, though Alex appears confused on who else would possibly want them to fight him.
When the group meets Merv directly to prove their innocence, Chris interrupts to bring back his dog and informs the protagonists that she was setup by Slick as she was jumped by his goons when she was trying to follow him. When Chris was knocked out, Slick would take her to Dr. D's underground base before she eventually managed to break out after waking up. With things seemingly cleared up, Wes enters the room and picks a fight with the protagonists still under the assumption they were responsible for kidnapping Merv's dog, though realizes they weren't responsible after the fight. With everyone now on the same page, Chris suggests that they all regroup in order to stop Slick for good. Slick is later seen guarding the entrance of River City High and warns the group that his powers have become nearly uncontrollable since they last saw each other. Upon being defeated, he reveals that he was only following orders and that someone higher than him is responsible for everything.
During the ending of the game, Alex is seen reading the newspaper where it reveals that Slick has been arrested once again.
