She was previously a student at Reihō Academy being former classmates with Akira Shinoda and also has a younger sister who's currently in school. Rina is a childhood friend of Masao Kobayashi with her father being an executive at Kobayashi Industries, though her family would fall under hard times when the company filed for bankruptcy.
Background[]
In the story mode, Rina is first mentioned on the second day by Shinoda as the girl Kunio should go see if he wants to hear more high school stories. Kunio goes to see her at Three Castle though ends up talking with Mika Sakagami first as Rina was occupied at the moment. When Rina is free, she goes to sit with Kunio and is aware that he's actually interested in hearing about Reihō Academy. Rina goes onto explain how she knows Kobayashi and talks about how she noticed his personality start to change when his father's company went bankrupt. She states that he started thinking of running Reihō shortly after enrolling. She explains that Kobayashi has been training martial arts since he was young and has frequently gotten into fights while in middle school. Rina then details that Kobayashi was able to take on the delinquents of the school with ease until Takashi Onizuka came into the picture and was able to stop him as an even match in strength. Kobayashi would then develop an admiration for Onizuka which made him step aside as Reihō's top delinquent and would instead seek out others with talent that he'd deem useful. Rina would describe Kobayashi as being ambitious for someone only in high school and that he's been living on his own for a while.
Kunio asks Rina more about Onizuka, to which she describes him as being a popular student who'd eventually become the Student Council President at Reihō Academy. She states that he recently stepped down from his position and was succeeded by Taiki Yamada, though she struggles to remember the name. Rina then brings up that her sister told her that Kobayashi and Onizuka were both recently beaten by the recent transfers Ryūichi and Ryūji Hattori, so they have since stepped aside as the ones running Reihō. She lastly mentions that the last time she saw Kobayashi he mentioned to her that he's since gathered a posse of five others which she thinks is admirable that he's able to win people over so well. Before leaving, Rina gets ready to ask Kunio a favor but restrains herself as she realizes he's going to have to fight regardless, so she instead asks Kunio to be careful and warns him of Kobayashi's strength.
On the true ending, Rina will appear on the third day and interrupt Kunio and Minori Yamagami's conversation in a rush to warn them of Makoto Yamagami's presence in the area. Makoto follows her and grabs her by the neck getting ready to punch her, though is stopped by Kunio. Upon hearing Yamada's named being mentioned by Kunio, Makoto grows more enraged and knocks Rina up into the air. Rina is caught by Kunio and handed to Minori where he then asks the two to leave before he begins his fight against Makoto.
