Reihō Academy

Reihō Academy (冷峰学園, れいほうがくえん^?, lit. "Cold Mountain Academy") is a recurring institution that is frequently featured as the antagonistic school in the Downtown Nekketsu series. It is an elite private school with programs for regular students, athletes, and those preparing for college. The school has a reputation that extends across all of Japan.

Downtown Nekketsu Story[]

Reihō Academy is taken over by Taiki Yamada with him placing Ryūichi and Ryūji Hattori as the heads of his takeover scheme. Under Yamada, he orchestrates the takeover of the other high schools in an attempt to prove himself better than Kunio. The school is seen as the final area of the game where Kunio and Riki fight their way through the students and make it up to the rooftop where they fight Yamada. After Yamada is defeated, Reihō returns back to normal and the other schools are freed from it's control. Yamada would transfer schools after the ordeal.

Downtown Nekketsu March Super-Awesome Field Day![]

Following the events of Downtown Nekketsu Story, Mamoru Tōdō would become the new President of the Student Council and conjure a plan to sponsor a joint sports festival as an apology for Yamada's actions. In reality, Tōdō planned on using the festival to destroy the other schools and would build together an incredibly strong team to ensure the school's victory.

Reihō Academy appears as a selectable team with the events taking place on it's campus. In the Game Boy version, Reihō will have their own ending when playing against CPU.

Downtown Nekketsu Baseball Monogatari: Yakyū de Shōbu da! Kunio-kun[]

Reihō Academy appears as the final opposing team Nekketsu High School must face before Kunio joins the team in the story mode. The team is able to be played outside of the story mode.

The school serves the same purpose as it did in Downtown Nekketsu Story.

River City Super Sports Challenge[]

Reihō Academy appears as a selectable team.

River City Super Sports Challenge ~All Stars Special~[]

This remake of Super-Awesome Field Day re-imagines the events of that game. The story takes place after River City: Rival Showdown.

After Yamada's scheme was foiled by Kunio and Riki, Tōdō would apologize for his actions and decide to host a sports tournament where schools were able to compete against each other fair and square. Tōdō however intended to have Reihō Academy reign supreme over the other schools and would continually rig the tournament or sabotage other teams in an attempt to have his school win. The events take place on Reihō's campus.

Reihō Academy, the Four Kings, the Reihō Former Student Council, and the Reihō Sports Club all appear as selectable teams outside of the story mode.

River City: Rival Showdown[]

River City: Rival Showdown is a remake of Downtown Nekketsu Story. The game takes place before River City Super Sports Challenge ~All Stars Special~.

Three months prior to the main story, Yamada would begin acting on his scheme of taking over all the schools in Japan by taking control over Reihō Academy. In order to accomplish this, he would take on the school's Four Kings and then brainwash Takashi Onizuka into formerly resigning from the Student Council so he can take the position. Shortly after taking control of the school, Yamada would seek out Ryūichi and Ryūji to have them transfer and help him carry out his plan.

In the main story, Kunio is able to find a brainwashed Onizuka on Reihō's campus on the first night and will shortly return his state back to normal after beating him. On the third day, Masao Kobayashi will meet Kunio on the school's campus to provide him an ultimatum to fight him at his abandoned factory or he will lead an assault against Nekketsu High School. Later in the day, Tsuyoshi Gōda will be seen guarding the school's entrance and will fight Kunio to see if he's capable of taking on Reihō while simultaneously fulfilling his orders of guarding the gate. After Gōda is defeated, Susumu Godai will arrive to the sight of Gōda knocked out and will fight Kunio. Upon defeating the two, Yamada is seen watching from afar where he then orders Ryūichi and Ryūji to capture Mami Shimada and informs them that they'll be attacking Nekketsu on the following day. During the final day, Kunio and Riki will fight their way through Reihō Academy to rescue Mami and put an end to Yamada's scheme.

Localized versions[]

In River City Ransom, the school is renamed to River City High while the gang of students is renamed to The Plague.
- This name would be used in the River City Girls continuity, though it instead represents Nekketsu High School. Reiho High School is described to be it's own institution.
In Crash 'n' the Boys: Street Challenge, the school is renamed to Lincoln High School.
