- This page refers to Mr. Thornley from Crash 'n' the Boys. For the Kunio-kun counterpart, see Kōnosuke Tōdō.
Mr. Thornley is a localized version of Kōnosuke Tōdō featured in the North American version of Surprise! Nekketsu New Records! The Distant Gold Medal. In this continuity, Mr. Thornley is the president of Thornley Industries, a global conglomerate ran by Spring Hill's oldest and wealthiest family. He is the father of Todd.
Background[]
Mr. Thornley is first seen during the intro of the game in his office as Mr. Lee informs him that the Hillers were defeated once again in the All-City Track Meet. Mr. Thornley makes it clear to Mr. Lee that he's disappointed in his son Todd for failing their family. When Todd barges into his office begging to not be thrown out, Mr. Thornley silences his son stating that their family doesn't tolerate failures. Mr. Lee then states to Mr. Thornley that they cannot let the Southside keep winning against the Hillers and demands Todd that he challenges Crash to a rematch. Todd convinces his father to remove the tournament rules in order to make Crash vulnerable, though Mr. Thornley makes it clear to his son that he better not fail him again. In order to ensure their victory, Mr. Lee informs Mr. Thornley that he'll assemble a team of super athletes out of their employees.
During the ending of the game, Mr. Lee informs Mr. Thornley that their team of super athletes weren't able to win against Crash and vows to get him back. Mr. Thornley refuses and begins to think he's been too harsh. When Crash enters his office, he mentions how difficult it was to get into the building, to which Mr. Thornley apologizes for the inconvenience and congratulates him on his team's victory. When asked by Crash why he's being so nice towards him, Mr. Thornley goes onto explain that Washington High was previously undefeated for four seasons, though Crash's rivalry with Todd soured his relationship with him. Crash makes it clear that he had no intention on causing any trouble and thanks Mr. Thornley for his time before sarcastically proposing that they can all be friends knowing that they won't let go of their grudge.
