- This page refers to Mr. K from Renegade. For the Kunio-kun counterpart, see Kunio.
Mr. K is a localized version of Kunio that was first featured in the North American version of Nekketsu Renegade Kunio-kun.
Appearances[]
Renegade[]
Mr. K debuted in the localization of Nekketsu Renegade Kunio-kun as the replacement for Kunio.
In the Arcade version, the city has been conquered by hoodlums, so Mr. K sets out to fight the gangs using his street smarts to protect the citizens. During the ending of the game, Mr. K reunites with his girlfriend. In the NES version, Mr. K instead finds himself surrounded by gangs of blood-thirsty thugs and decides to take them on.
In the manuals for the Amstrad CPC, Amiga, Atari ST ports, it is explained Mr. K is trying to rescue his girlfriend, whom is named Lucy in the Amstrad CPC version.
In the Sega Master System version, the story is explained as taking place in the city of New Arcadia during the 1970s. The powerful druglord, Lucas created the Syndicate and took over the city, leading Mr. K to try and free the city from the Syndicate's control. In the game's ending, Mr. K watches as Lucas' mansion explodes.
Target; Renegade[]
In the NES version, Mr. K, renamed to Jack the Renegade, is trying to rescue his brother from Mr. Big, the game's version of Lucas.
Renegade III: The Final Chapter[]
River City Girls 2[]
In this continuity, Mr. K is reimagined to be a detective. He is voiced by Craig Lee Thomas in English and remains uncredited in the Japanese dub.
Mr. K is seen on the top floor of the destroyed River City High inside of the principal's office. Upon talking to him, the protagonists question if they're allowed to be in the room, to which Mr. K assures they're allowed to stay as he believes there is a mystery to be solved. Confused by his appearance, the group question if he's truly the principal and believes that he instead looks like a low budget superhero. Mr. K briefly introduces himself without giving any insight on his name's meaning, though the group suggest that the name "Mr. E" would've worked better, though Mr. K responds that he's already bought a web domain. Mr. K then offers a reward if the group solves his mystery.
Upon solving the mystery, Mr. K appears shocked that the group was able to solve it so fast and compliments their aptitude for solving mysteries. Mr. K goes on to claim that he's trained the group well, though they refute his claim by pointing out that he's never trained them on anything. Mr. K ignores the comment and sends out the protagonists to solve more mysteries in order to make River City a safer place.
Trivia[]
- Mr. K's appearance in the Sega Master System version of Renegade resembles Sonny Lee, particularly in the yellow vest and boots.
- According to River City Girls director Adam Tierney, Mr. K is not actually the principal of River City High in River City Girls 2. He describes him as being a weird detective that's only hanging around.[1]
