Three months prior to the main story, Taira is approached by Taiki Yamada at the Yumemi Spa where he picks a fight with him by calling him the weakest link in Reihō's Four Kings. Taira appears confused as to why Yamada is looking for a fight because he's an honor student that isn't involved in any street fighting, though gets angry enough to start the fight when Yamada continues to insult him. Upon being defeated, Yamada requests Taira to join him as a subordinate and put his underhanded tactics to use, where Taira remains quiet and Yamada attempts to brainwash him. Taira gets back up shortly after Yamada leaves and appears unphased by the brainwashing and confused as to what just happened.
In the main story, Taira tricks Mika Sakagami into posing as a Reihō student interested in Kunio where she was told it was intended as a prank, though was actually used as a trap to get Kunio jumped by his goons with a girl watching. Taira is first seen during the second day at Hanazono Park with his goons where he was initially going to target Riki's girlfriend Mami Shimada as a way to bring Hanazono High School to a heel, he switches to his backup plan of jumping Riki at Starpark Café as Minamoto has not yet shown up to the park. Taira is then seen at the café getting ready to instigate a fight with Riki by mentioning his current search for Mami, though is interrupted when Kunio walks into the café by surprise and backs up Riki. Taira and his goons are all successfully taken down by the two. Minamoto walks into the café and reveals to Taira that he was the one who informed Kunio of his plans and wishes for Taira to return back to who he was in middle school. Taira ignores Minamoto's advice and punches him in the stomach, where he then calls in some gym trainers he hired as a backup. After the fight, Minamoto tries to talk some sense into Taira once again, though he passes out and is instead taken to the hospital by Minamoto.
On the third day Taira is hiding in Kobayashi's abandoned factory with Mami in his custody, where Kunio hears a sound coming from the room after his battle against Kobayashi. Taira attempts to attack Kunio from behind as he's surprised that he showed up, but loses to him once again in a fight. Taira claims that Kunio should be thanking him as he currently had Mami hidden away from a different party who attempted to kidnap her. Kunio asks who the mastermind of the kidnapping is, to which Taira remains unsure and only knows that it's someone using Reihō as a cover and that they were posing as one of his goons. Taira passes out once again, to where Minamoto carries him outside of the factory.
Taira later appears on the final day with Minamoto and his goons inside of Reihō Academy. Riki claims Taira was the one behind Mami's second kidnapping, though Taira explains that it was Ryūichi and Ryūji Hattori who were responsible, as the Dragon Twin's methods are far more crude than Taira's. Now angry, Taira gets ready to fight Kunio and Riki. On the true ending, Sanjūrō Sugata and Haruka Nanase will join the fight to assist Kunio.
In the Double Dragon Duel mode, Taira's River City Ransom counterpart Mojo will appear as a playable character and opponent in the tournament. When playing this gamemode in the main story, Minamoto will always select Mojo as his character.
