Mizoguchi (溝口, みぞぐち), full name Kōki Mizoguchi (溝口光輝, みぞぐち こうき), is a supporting character featured in Stay Cool, Kobayashi-san!: A River City Ransom Story. He is a mysterious boy who came from the future in pursuit of an evil organization, though his fighting skills are described as not being very strong.
Mizoguchi is a colleague and a close friend of Yugo Yamada. The two view Kusuhara as their mentor.
Background[]
When travelling to the past in pursuit of the evil organization, Mizoguchi would befriend Masao Kobayashi without any information on his future being available as he recognizes his power. Kobayashi would later introduce Mizoguchi to Kunio, to which he states that he's heard a lot about Kunio and warns him that he'll need to stay on guard and fight any evil time travelers. When asked by Kobayashi on the current location of their enemies, Mizoguchi informs him that they're all gathering in the area and that it'd be best to take them all down at once. Mizoguchi later asks Kyōsuke Otonashi to leave cat shaped robots in the area to track their progress. From this point on, Mizoguchi will explain various mechanics of the game, narrate the menus, and be available as an assist or a controllable character. While he is active, items are able to be used.
Mizoguchi will later meet Yugo and question why he went to the past as he's been looking everywhere for him, though Yugo tells him not to worry as there were things going on that he wasn't able to talk about. Mizoguchi assumes Yugo is acting on special orders and states that he's heard nothing about it, to which Yugo states that it would've been problematic if he were to have found out. Yugo assures that he has Mizoguchi's back before leaving.
Further in the story, Yugo will meet Mizoguchi again to apologize for being the reason why everything that's going on is happening. He states that he still wishes to get revenge on the evil organization and brings out his associate Kusuhara hoping that he'll listen to what he has to say. Yugo then leaves to meet Takeru Tōdō and Kusuhara then drops in asking Mizoguchi if he still remembers him. Mizoguchi is surprised that Kusuhara is still alive as it was believed that he died in an accident. Kusuhara admits that he intentionally faked his death and then asks Mizoguchi if he'd like to be his partner, though gets angry when he's not given an answer and decides to fight him believing that Mizoguchi and Yugo's bloodline are too dangerous to be keeping around.
Upon defeating Kusuhara, Yugo will meet Mizoguchi again and states that he'd like to stay behind and attempt to create a new future where he won't lose any of his friends, though states that he'll still put in his best effort to help Mizoguchi. He then asks Mizoguchi to not try and stop Hirukesu's scheme. Shortly after, Takeru will apologize to Mizoguchi for not being able to keep Yugo away from Kusuhara.
