Ivan is a localized version of Tsuyoshi Gōda first appearing in the North American & European versions of Downtown Nekketsu Story. In this continuity, Ivan is a fighter that knows many tricks and is described as being a tough opponent.

River City Ransom[]
Ivan debuted in the localization of Downtown Nekketsu Story as the replacement for Gōda.
Ivan is first mentioned by Thor after his defeat where he will mention that Ivan guards the gates at River City High. Upon clearing the enemies outside of the school, Ivan will appear and states to Alex and Ryan that they'll need to beat him in order to get inside of the school. Upon being defeated, he deems the two as worthy opponents and thinks they may get lucky in their upcoming fights.
River City Ransom EX[]
Ivan replaces Gōda in the localization of Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari EX and was given the surname Popov.[1][2] Although the name was changed, Ivan's sprite remained unchanged from Gōda.
River City: Rival Showdown[]
Ivan appears in the English version of River City: Rival Showdown's Double Dragon Duel gamemode as a playable character unlocked by default.
River City Ransom: Underground[]
Ivan is first seen during the game's prologue as it retells the events of River City Ransom. In the present day, Ivan is contacted by Slick and is requested to work under him again. Wanting to relive the glory days, Ivan accepts his offer. Ivan is first indirectly mentioned by Tex after he's caught by the protagonists. Tex mentions that the group will be able to find what they're looking for on the rooftop, to which Roxy later adds at the A&R Auto Shop that an intruder was spotted at River City High.
On the school's rooftop at night, Ivan will mention that he regrets letting Slick down before and won't be able to stand the dishonor of it happening again. He will then lead the protagonists on a chase through the school, though comes to realize that he can't relive his high school days upon being caught. He then mentions that Otis is in the best shape out of all of Slick's previous kingpins and that he was just visiting him not long ago.
Trivia[]
- Although River City Ransom: Underground references characters from River City Ransom EX (such as Conan), Ivan in the game is loyal to Slick. This likely implies that Abby does not exist in the continuity of River City Ransom: Underground, or that Conatus Creative was unaware of her existence and relation to Ivan.
