When Nekketsu High School wins the semi-finals, Onizuka warns the team that their next opponent will be the strongest one they've faced yet. River City: Rival Showdown[]
River City: Rival Showdown is a remake of Downtown Nekketsu Story. The game takes place before River City Super Sports Challenge ~All Stars Special~.
Three months prior to the main story, Onizuka is approached by Yamada at Reihō Academy, where he demands Onizuka to give him his position as Student Council President. Yamada proceeds to defeat Onizuka in a fight, where he then brainwashes him and demand that he formerly resigns from his position, hold an election for next semester's president, and have Yamada get elected. Although he formerly resigned, Yamada still has him do any of the work that comes with the position behind the scenes.
In the main story, Onizuka is able to be seen during the first night on Reihō's campus. Appearing unstable, Onizuka attacks Kunio and the two begin to fight. Upon being defeated, Onizuka's brainwashing temporarily wares off and recognizes Kunio, to where he asks him what's happening. This appears as short lived, as the brainwashing kicks back in and he is no longer able to speak clearly. During the final day, Onizuka is seen getting ready to leave for Nekketsu High School, to where he then meets Kunio and Riki outside of Reihō Academy's entrance and instead has them fight a large group of students, where he then heads off into the gym waiting for them. With the students outside defeated, Kunio and Riki will then fight Onizuka inside of the gym. On the true ending, Kamijō and Yamamoto will join the fight to assist Kunio.
In the Double Dragon Duel mode, Onizuka is renamed to The Ogre and appears as a playable character and an opponent in the tournament.
