Blue Emperor (ブルーエンペラー?), alternatively known as the Yokohama Funky (横浜ファンキー?), is a recurring bōsōzoku group formerly led by Shinji[1] that was first featured in Nekketsu Renegade Kunio-kun.

Appearances[]

Nekketsu Renegade Kunio-kun[]

Yokohama Funky members appear as the second opponents. In the Arcade version, Hiroshi will be attacked by Yokohama Funky members lead by Shinji with Kunio then chasing after them for revenge. Upon arriving at a port, Kunio will defend himself from members of the group attempting to run him over with their motorcycles. After clearing the bikers, Kunio fights against on-foot members of the group with Shinji joining the fight after a certain amount are defeated.

In the Famicom version, the group is instead referred to as Blue Emperor. At a port within Yokosuka, Kunio will fight against a wave of on-foot members before facing a group of bikers. Upon defeating the final biker, Kunio will take their motorcycle and chases after Shinji fighting against more bikers along the way. After catching up to Shinji, he will be seen parked alone as he faces off against Kunio one-on-one.

Shin Nekketsu Kōha: Kunio-tachi no Banka[]

Following the framing and incarceration of Kunio and Riki, Blue Emperor members assist Sabu in his plans of taking control over Nekketsu and Hanazono High School with eventual plans of taking over Shinjuku and Roppongi. Shinji then has Ryūta force the students from the two schools to work part-time jobs at an amusement park as he previously borrowed money from him. After Kunio and Riki's escape from prison, they eventually about the scheme from Nobu and are later informed of Shinji and the Sanwakai's involvement after defeating Ryūta.

Shortly after the protagonists arrive to the amusement park, Shinji calls for Kunio on the park's intercom and leads him on a chase throughout the park. The group eventually find Shinji and attempt to get Ken's whereabouts through him, though he laughs their demands off and proceeds to fight them. Upon being defeated, Shinji flees the scene on his motorcycle and heads toward the Blue Emperor hideout on the pier. While riding on the highway, the protagonists defend themselves from members of the gang until they reach their hideout. The group begin to fight their way through the hideout until they reach Shinji where they then face off against him once again. After being defeated, Shinji claims that he isn't aware of Ken's whereabouts and that he doesn't know who they're talking about. Not believing what he's saying, the protagonists attempt to pressure Shinji into giving them the truth, though Shinji only warns them that they'll be killed if they continue looking into Ken any further.

Kunio and Riki meet with Shinji in Yokohama to ask if the Blue Emperor have had any trouble with the Tokyo Lion Alliance and if he'd be able to help them practice against fighting bikers. Riki mentions that they ran into Ginjishi, though Shinji shrugs it off and states that he isn't worried about him. Shinji happily accepts Riki's request to help them train and has his crew attack the two on their motorcycles before joining in himself. After they complete their training, Shinji asks to join the two as he wishes to keep the Lion Alliance off of his turf. Later in the story it is revealed that Ginjishi was a former member of Blue Emperor and that his reason for leaving was because he lost a friend from the group in a motorcycle accident.
