Barkeep (マスター ) is an unnamed character featured in River City: Rival Showdown. He used to be apart of the wrong crowd though would be given a job at Starpark Bar when the owner took him under his wing. During the daytime he opens the bar as a café because of his love for coffee. He does latte art and shares photos of his work online.[1]
Background[]
In the story mode, the barkeep will be seen inside of Starpark Café and will listen in on the conversations between Kunio and Akira Shinoda. During the first day, the barkeep will comment that he's heard the students from Reihō Academy have recently been authoritative and aggressive to others as of late. He will comment on Shinoda's drinking and request that he eases off the drinks, though upon passing out he reassures Kunio that he won't need to worry about the tab. Upon Shinoda passing out a second time, he will ask Kunio if he's currently in high school and will inform him there's a brawl club being ran in the Hanazono Park, though apologizes for trying to trying to be a cool bartender with the inside scoop like in the movies. When Kunio returns later to talk to Shinoda again, he passes out with the barkeep explaining to Kunio about Shinoda's story after finished high school.
On the second day, the barkeep will be seen running to the side when Kiyofumi Taira begins to instigate a fight with Riki inside of the café. He later appears at night and will comment that he talks with Shinoda for a small amount of money while he's talking to Kunio about princess cafes.
When playing on the true ending, Shinoda will inform the barkeep on the third day of Mika Sakagami being assaulted by Makoto Yamagami. The barkeep appears shocked and mentions that she used to be a regular at the bar, though he runs outside upon hearing Makoto break into the building. When Kunio goes to meet Minori Yamagami at the bar later in the night, she promises to the barkeep that she'll pay for any of the damages Makoto caused.
In Riki's story, the barkeep will overhear the conversation between Riki and Shinoda and suggests that he helps Riki out a bit further after he leaves to Three Castle in search of a fluffy cushion before Shinoda was able to explain that it's an invite-only club.
