Alex (アレックス), full name Alex Kun, is a localized version of Kunio first appearing in the North American & European versions of Downtown Nekketsu Story. In this continuity, Alex is a student at River City High and a former friend of Simon. In River City Ransom: Underground, he works at the A&R Auto Shop with Ryan and Roxy.

Alex debuted in the localization of Downtown Nekketsu Story as the replacement for Kunio.
With Alex and Ryan not being in school the day Slick took over, they decide to set out to free the students of River City High and rescue Ryan's girlfriend Cyndi. Alex and Ryan would meet Slick's girlfriend Roxy on the Capitol Ave Bridge where she informs the two that Randy and Andy were responsible for kidnapping Cyndi and that she's currently hidden away in a room on River City High's top floor. She tells the two that they'll need to defeat the twins to rescue her and warns them of their strength. She reassures before leaving that although she's Slick's girlfriend, she is still in full support of Alex and Ryan. Upon reaching Slick, he reveals himself as Alex's old friend Simon and gets ready to fight. With Simon defeated, he expresses his distaste towards Alex and notes that even when they were still friends, he was always too good.
River City Ransom EX[]
Alex replaces Kunio in the localization of Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari EX. Although the name was changed, Alex's sprite remained unchanged from Kunio.
River City: Rival Showdown[]
In the Double Dragon Duel gamemode, Alex appears as an unlockable character. Alex will fight the player in an extra round if they beat all the opponents without losing. Upon winning a fight against him, he will become playable.
River City Ransom: Underground[]
Alex and Ryan first appear during the prologue of the game with their past selves being playable as it retells the events of River City Ransom. In the present day, Alex works with Ryan and Roxy at the A&R Auto Shop. Although Ryan and Cyndi have since broken up, it is stated that Alex has and still has feelings for her. The two first notice the protagonists coming out of the sewer. With Ryan suspecting that the protagonists are the reason why the city's gangs are out on a rampage, the group try to plead their innocence, though Alex reassures that they don't need to worry as they already know what's truly going on. The two have deducted that Slick is responsible for what's been happening with Alex commenting that it'll be hard to track him down with all of the city's gangs seeking Merv's reward money. Roxy wakes up to inform the two that one of the Bee brothers were spotted near the freeway, so the two get ready to leave with Alex allowing the protagonists to tag along with them. Alex and Ryan will then lead the protagonists to the Purple Bee, where they then all fight against him. Upon defeating the Purple Bee, Alex becomes available as a playable character.
Roxy later informs the group at the Auto Shop that Slick's old kingpins have truly been popping up across town and that she's gotten a tip that points towards the Riverside Bridge with Alex thinking that it may be Benny and Clyde. With Rocko caught, Roxy informs the crew that another report came in from the Sewer Plant, to which Alex suspects that it's Tex as he was mentioned by Rocko. With Slick eventually defeated at the old River City High, Alex and Ryan are confused as to why they're still wanted by Merv. The protagonists suggest taking the fight to Merv himself, to which Alex compliments the reckless idea. Ryan comments that fighting Slick was only a distraction, though Alex appears confused as to who would've wanted them to fight him.
Upon arriving at Cyndi's house, Alex awkwardly tells her that she looks content since the last time they saw each other. When the protagonists arrive with milk at Cyndi's request, Alexis comes downstairs to complain about being unable to study to her mother, though introduces herself to the group. Alex compliments her face bandaid as he also wears one. When the crew return to Cyndi's house after confronting Merv, Alex appears happy that Cyndi's new partner William has blown up due to it being revealed that he was a cyclone.
During the ending of the game, Alex is seen getting together with Cyndi and rides away with her on his motorcycle during the credits.
River City Girls[]
Alex appears as the messenger for all of the tutorial prompts in the game and makes a cameo in some background elements.
River City Girls 2[]
Alex reprises his role as the messenger for the tutorial prompts. If the player finds their first secret room, Alex will appear as a hirable assist on the Capital Ave bridge in Crosstown.
Trivia[]
- In River City Ransom: Underground, the OG version of Alex is able to wear Kunio's outfit as an alternate skin.
