Technos through to Million/ Miracle Kids! era rules:
Since the arcade titles are retconned because of the console cannon, certain rules and settings can't be seen/ used. Also, if it's a game that takes place during the Technos era (like Kobayashi-san or Downtown Nekketsu Jidaigeki) but was released and developed during the Arc Sys era, it still counts. This also applies to games in the Million/ Miracle Kids! era (the Chou Nekketsu titles, despite being published by Arc Sys, is still very Million) I will also be giving myself (only) three retcon points for any inconsistencies that pop up (spoiler, not many). So without further ado, let's start!
First of all, we have to start with Nekketsu Kouha Kunio kun, it's practically the catalyst for all the events that follow. Then it's Nekketsu Kou Kou Dodgeball Bu, Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari (also includes the extra lore from EX, as EX is an EXpanded version of the original story), (Ikasuze) Stay cool Kobayashi-san, Nekketsu Kou Kou Dodgeball Bu Soccer Hen, Nekketsu Koushinkyoku, Bangai Rantou Hen, Ike Ike Nekketsu Hockey Bu, Nekketsu Kou Kou Dodgeball Bu Kyouteki Toukyuu Senshi no Maki, Shodai Nekketsu Kouha Kunio kun, Bikkuri Nekketsu Shin Kiroku, Nekketsu Kakutou Densetsu, Kunio kun no Nekketsu Soccer League, Shin Nekketsu Kouha Kunio tachi no Banka (our first retcon is here (it's only a small one and if you read the trivia post, then it does make sense) because Kunio is in his second year when actually he would be in his third year at this point), Nekketsu Street Basket, Downtown Nekketsu Baseball Monogatari, Kunio kun no Dodgeball Dayo Zen'in Shuugou, Kunio no Oden, Nekketsu Beach Volley, Kunio no Nekketsu Toukyuu Densetsu (I'll explain why it's here in another post or blog. Don't worry also I guess this is another retcon point being used as Shinji's gang will go from Yokohama Funky to Blue Emperor), Chou Nekketsu Kou Kou Kunio kun Dodgeball Bu, Kunio kun no Chou Nekketsu! Daiundoukai, Kunio kun no Chou Nekketsu Soccer League.
Here's the Jidaigeki timeline for completion's sake: Kunio kun no Jidaigeki Dayo Zen'in Shuugou, Downtown Nekketsu Jidaigeki (it does say that it is a sequel to the original Jidaigeki on the back of its box)
Arc Sys timeline (not really quite as many rules, but I won't be including Mahou Monogatari for the same reasons as Jidaigeki)
Firstly we start with Riki Densetsu, as Riki Den takes place before, Nekketsu Kouha Kunio kun Special, Rantou Kyousou Kyoku (Tokyo Rumble), Nekketsu Monogatari SP, Nekketsu Koushinkyoku AS, Battle Royale Special/ Mach
Here are the games during the Arc Sys timeline that don't fit due to them being AU spin-offs or not fitting in due to the ambiguity of the story: Kunio kun no Sangokushi, Nekketsu Mahou Monogatari, Kunio no Nekketsu Street (it's sort of a prequel to Koushinkyoku AS, but the game could take place at any point in the timeline as it is just Kunio, Riki, Gouda and Ryuichi cleaning up the streets) and Nekketsu Taisen Kunio kun X/ TD.
Here are the games that couldn't fit into the Technos through to Million/ Miracle Kids! era: Kunio kun no Daikanshasai (the game takes place after Baseball Monogatari but with every other game happening before the events of Baseball Monogatari (plus the game doesn't have a timeline of events laid out and it no longer official so it's canonicity is definitely non-canon), Downtown Nekketsu Dodgeball (This game is simply a masterpiece, but I'm here to talk lore, and it too is also not clear as to where it is in the timeline. But then again, it was just Miracle Kids! having one ball and a great time with the series entirely), Kunio kun no Nekketsu Dodgeball All Stars (it too is an all-star series celebration game so therefore the lore takes a backseat for some fun. Although it does adapt several stories throughout the Kunio kun series, just in the form of Dodgeball) and Nekketsu Kou Kou Soccer Bu World Cup Hen (Wasn't too sure where to place it, it is the sequel to Soccer Hen... But so is Soccer League, then again one is a world cup and the other is a league tournament... to win a world cup).
Let me explain how I came to this conclusion(we will get into the nitty gritty in later posts) because Famicom Nekketsu Kouha got rid of every character's year of birth (each character's YOB was in the arcade version) (the Sound Story tape does use them, but then it goes by the Famicom's settings such as stating that Kumiko is a first year at Taiyo, so it contradicts one another because she's 18. Still though, that tape has got a lot of awesome info on it) the series starts just a few days or a week after Riki's birthday (he's 19 remember). After Nekketsu Kouha's events, Dodgeball Bu happens (which takes two and a bit weeks you know, for the All Japan High Schools Dodgeball tournament (which we don't see, we do see the final which is Nekketsu v Hanazono) and the 47th World Dodgeball Tournament), once Kunio and the Dodgeball club return from their victory over America two and a bit months pass (all the prior events and the fact that it is said that Nekketsu Monogatari takes place three months after Nekketsu Kouha in it's manual has led me to feel that Nekketsu Kouha and Dodgeball Bu were within that time span. and so while it has been three months since Nekketsu Kouha, that doesn't mean that Dodgeball Bu is exempt. it is a part of that time frame), within those months Kunio becomes a third year at Nekketsu (still 17 though) and Riki meets up with a girl called Mami Shimada (this is just an overview, once I get to the posts there will be a lot more) who sees through Riki's tough exterior and sees this man who has good morals that is just a bit insecure and lets his ego and desires get to him. Mami is the first person to make Riki stop and think about his priorities (if Kunio was the first person to make him question his ability among a few other things then Mami is the person to finally make Riki change it's not instant, it will take time but...) and through being with Mami he starts to care about someone else other than himself and to have a different outlook on certain things. Riki maybe still an incredibly violent man but he now is a slightly less violent man, it's just that it will take something very drastic for Riki to go back to his roots...
Alright, enough of the sudo storytelling to get my point across, but I managed to get all this just by following the game's stories, reading the character's dialogue and getting any extra info from the instruction manuals or other official sources of information. No headcanons or major retcons to try and get an outcome that I would prefer not even using fan works, I just have to follow the lore and I like that.
I'll see you guys at the beginning of the timeline... Nekketsu Kouha Kunio kun, where I'll be looking into each character's reasons for why they would work with Sabu and the impact it has on the series as a whole.
Bye!
